20 Years of Innovation: Our Journey in Oilfield Services

By Amos Oilfield Services

Innovation Company Story Oilfield Services Hornet Derricks

From Family Legacy to Industry Leadership

For over two decades, Amos oilfield services has been at the forefront of innovation in the oilfield inspection and fabrication industry. What began as a third-generation family commitment to excellence has evolved into a comprehensive suite of API-certified services that set the gold standard for safety, quality, and reliability.

The Amos family’s roots run deep in oil and gas. Through three generations of dedicated service, we’ve built expertise that goes far beyond basic inspection—we’ve become the trusted partner that operators turn to when equipment integrity matters.

The Evolution of Excellence

Building the Foundation

Our journey started with a simple commitment: provide world-class inspection and repair services that keep rigs operating safely and efficiently. Early on, we recognized that true expertise required more than just following procedures—it demanded deep understanding, hands-on knowledge, and genuine partnership with our clients.

The Birth of Hornet Derricks

One of our defining moments came with the establishment of Hornet Derricks—our in-house manufacturing and engineering facility in Tecumseh, Oklahoma. This wasn’t just another fabrication shop; it was a commitment to OEM-level quality and design innovation.

Today, Hornet Derricks has earned its place as an industry leader:

  • 50+ masts deployed and operating in the field
  • 30+ carrier frames and trailers manufactured for drilling rigs
  • Custom substructures and mud pit systems engineered for specific operational demands
  • Continuous innovation in derrick design driven by real-world field experience

The significance of having our own manufacturing facility cannot be overstated. When Chad Amos, owner of Hornet Derricks, signs off on an inspection certificate or coordinates the repair process, he brings not just certification—he brings OEM-level knowledge and accountability. He knows how these derricks were designed, how they perform in the field, and exactly what’s needed to maximize their operational life.

The Leadership That Drives Innovation

Chad Amos: Bridging Design and Field Reality

Chad’s unique position—as both the owner of Hornet Derricks and the inspector conducting Cat IV certifications—gives him unparalleled insight into equipment performance. His involvement in every aspect of the inspection process ensures that recommendations are grounded in both engineering precision and real-world operational understanding.

Tanner Miller: 20+ Years of Quality Excellence

Tanner Miller’s journey epitomizes our commitment to excellence. With over two decades of experience on the natural gas side across New Mexico, West Texas, and Oklahoma, Tanner spent years as the quality control field director for ConocoPhillips. He wrote weld procedures, tested contract welders, and most importantly, built a reputation for holding teams accountable for both safety and quality.

As co-owner and Director of Quality Control across all three Amos companies, Tanner brings an AWS certified welding inspector stamp and a work ethic that is impeccable and tested. His mentorship under highly regarded industry figures shaped an approach to inspection and fabrication that prioritizes doing things right, every single time.

Our Professional Engineer: 40 Years of Industry Revolution

Our professional engineer brings 40 years of industry experience and a track record of revolutionizing the landscape through innovative design. Responsible for the Hornet Derricks line, he has the capability to review prints, perform static hook load capacity calculations, and engineer custom designs for newly fabricated components. Every design is backed by engineering precision and field-proven performance.

We train your personnel to approach every situation with safety first. Our Rig Manager Certification Program ensures that your team can conduct API Cat I and II inspections independently, reducing downtime from faulty equipment and preventing insurance premium increases from on-the-job incidents.

This proactive approach has saved clients significant costs through:

  • Reduced equipment failures
  • Fewer insurance claims
  • Decreased operational downtime
  • Enhanced safety culture across operations

Innovation That’s Grounded in Reality

What sets Amos apart from the competition isn’t flashy marketing—it’s the alignment between what we design, what we manufacture, and what we inspect. When Chad reviews your derrick with his professional engineer, they’re not just applying standards; they’re drawing on the collective knowledge of designing, building, and maintaining 50+ derricks in the field.

When Tanner inspects your equipment, he’s bringing 20+ years of field experience and the standards he helped establish at a major operator.

When our professional engineer stamps your certification, it’s backed by four decades of innovations that have helped shape the industry.
